A word or two from a Waterways Partnership member

09 February 2012

Hallo all. I am delighted to have been invited by the website team to contribute here at what is a hugely exciting period for our inland waterways. Sitting here on a vintage narrowboat with the outside temperature hovering at well below zero and the canal frozen solid - albeit I am deliciously snug by the stove - it is easy to appreciate why there are those who think there may be little going on at this time of year. But that is hardly the case, especially when one peers behind the scenes.

For the past several months I have been part of a team who have been beavering away throughout the West Midlands and getting to grips with their role in helping set out the vision for the future under the new order. Over the forthcoming months I will look forward to offering my own personal slant on what’s going on around the waterways from the perspective of a Waterways Partnership member who also happens to be a boating enthusiast, commercial skipper and good ol' Black Country boy. More on all that as time progresses; in the meantime, just pass me another lump of coal.
