Cycling along the Ashton Canal

The towpath improvements have been carried out with cyclists in mind, and the canal provides a pleasant 'green link' from the city centre to East Manchester.

To cycle along the towpath you will need a British Waterways cycling permit which can be downloaded free of charge.

If you enjoy cycling you may also want to take a trip to the Manchester Velodrome, situated on the canal-bank between Locks 7 & 8. This is the first purpose built indoor cycling centre in the UK.
