Balderhead Reservoir

Balderhead Reservoir was built in 1965 at an altitude of 330 metres. It spans an area of 114 hectares and has a depth of between 11 and 20 feet. It was the biggest dam in the country when it was built.

Balderhead Reservoir is one of three dams on the River Balder - a tributary of the River Tees. Water flows from here into Blackton reservoir then into Hury reservoir, before reaching the Tees River.
