Balderhead is operated as a 'wild' upland fishery. It contains native stocks of wild brown trout. Only fly-fishing from the bank is permitted.

The season extends from 22nd March to 30th September. Tickets can be obtained from the machine at the north end of the Hury dam, about a mile away. Price is £7 per day (£6 concessions) for 12 fish.
