Cycling along the Bassenthwaite Lake
One option is to join the 72-mile Cumbria Way Cycle Route, an alternative to the C2C. Starting at Ulverston and ending in Carlisle, the whole thing takes two days and passes some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain, including Bassenthwaite. Mountain bikers love it because of its variety, in terms of using lanes, off-road trails, hills and bridleways. But even the novice can tackle sections of the route.
Alternatively, there are plenty of other on-road options.
