Wildlife along the Blithfield Reservoir
The woodland surrounding the reservoir is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. You can visit the nature reserve with prior arrangement through the Secretary of the West Midland Bird Club - Mike West. Please email him at secretary@westmidlandbirdclub. com.
Resident birds are Greated Crested Grebe, Cormorant, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Sparrowhawk, Little Owl, Tawny Owl and Kingfisher.
From April to September, look out for Oystercatcher, Little Ringed Plover, Ringed Plover, Dunlin, Redshank, Common Sandpiper, Common Tern, Sand Martin, Yellow Wagtail, Sedge Warbler, Spotted Flycatcher and passage raptors including the Osprey.
From October to March, you may see Shelduck, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, Pintail, Pochard, Goldeneye and Goosander.
