Fishing along the Blythe Waters
This complex of four lakes is shortly to be expanded with the opening of a new lake which is designed to be attractive to pleasure anglers and in particular junior anglers.
The main match pools are Bridge Pool and Willow Pool which are booked often by clubs on Sundays and are used for open matches on Tuesday afternoons in summer, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The match record is a little over 100lbs but matches are more normally won with around 50lbs in summer and 30lbs in winter.
Carp make up the bulk of the stock and these run up to around 15lbs but there are also shoals of silver fish, orfe, and barbel. Pole fishing is the most popular method although on Bridge Pool good catches can be had on running line casting tight to the islands. Cherries Pool has a large floating island running down the middle of the whole length of the pool and fishing close to this will give you good results. Once again, this pool is heavily stocked with carp up to 15lbs or so but also with big stocks of roach, skimmers and tench. Home Pool is the specimen fish pool with carp running up to 28lbs or so and boilies tend to be the most successful bait although in summer floating dog biscuits account for big catches. A new night syndicate started operating in October 2004 and this has proved successful with some big catches of carp being taken on boilies during the hours of darkness.
The fishery has good facilities for disabled anglers, particularly on Cherries Pool, which is next to the main car park. Popular with family groups, Blythe Waters offers concessionary tickets.
