Stoppage: Lingards Bridge, Leigh Branch

Associated Regional Office: Non BW Region

Safety gates are to be installed close to Lingards Bridge on the Leigh Branch of the Bridgewater Canal. The gates are required to further protect the canal due to the close proximity of fissures that cross the canal. During the works the Bridgewater Canal will be closed to navigation 30 metres on either side of the works.

For pleasure craft travelling from Leigh towards the stoppage, the last winding hole is to the West of Morleys Bridge (A580 East Lancs Road). The last winding hole on the East side of the works is Bridgewater Marina at Boothstown. Craft wishing to use Worsley Dry Dock or facilities at Bridgewater Marina at Boothstown (from the Manchester direction) are unaffected by the stoppage.

The towpath in the locality of the works will be restricted with local diversions in place as necessary.

Due to the nature of the works it is unlikely that navigation will be temporarily restored during the Christmas or New Year period.

The Manchester Ship Canal Company apologises for any inconvenience caused by these necessary works.
