Walking along the Bude Canal

A footpath runs along the barge canal from Helebridge, on the A39 near Marhamchurch, into Bude itself. This is an easy and pleasant walk, barely two miles long.

The tub-boat canals may be walked in short lengths. The 'Bude Aqueduct' walk follows the old canal line from Lower Tamar Lake, near Alfardisworthy (approximately six miles north-east of Bude).

Also worth exploring is the large inclined plane site at Hobbacott Down. Leave Bude on the A3072 to Holsworthy, then approximately one mile out of Stratton, park at the viewing point and walk south along the public footpath.
