Calder & Hebble Navigation

Unique in many ways, this ever-changing waterway - part river, part canal - boasts unusual locks and an exceptional collection of 18th Century warehouses.

The Calder & Hebble runs for 21 mostly rural miles from Sowerby Bridge to Wakefield. Both a charming waterway in itself and a vital connection between the Yorkshire waterways and the Pennine canals of Huddersfield and Rochdale, it has seen a renaissance in recent years.

Though the waterway once served a busy industrial area, its route is surprisingly untroubled by modern-day life, and a cruise or walk along the Calder & Hebble is a relaxing experience. The small towns of Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge are full of interest and local colour.
