Cycling along the Calder & Hebble Navigation

The towpath forms part of the Calder Valley Cycleway and the Hebble Trail Cycleway, offering a safe route between Sustrans' National Cycle Network Route 66 and Halifax town centre. Halifax CTC also promotes Sunday rides along the navigation.

Some sections of the Calder & Hebble Navigation towpath are now officially a cycleway (specifically part of National Cycle Network Route 66). These are:

  • Sterne Mills Bridge to end of the Halifax Arm
  • Salterhebble Locks to Barge & Barrel in Elland (towpath changes sides)
  • Barge & Barrel to Ganney Lock.

To cycle along the towpath, you will need a British Waterways cycling permit which you can download, free of charge.
