1. Advice: Lock 3

   16 Apr 2010 until further notice

   Anti-vandal / handcuff / water conservation mechanisms have been added to Lock 3 on the Caldon Canal (Planet Lock).

   The new locks have been put in place as a result of local vandalism.

   Handcuff keys are available from Harecastle Tunnel, Red Bull Wharf, Stone Boat Yard & Longport Wharf.

2. Restriction: Just North of Bridge 50 (London Works Bridge)

   21 Mar 2011 until further notice

   Associated Regional Office: Central Shires Waterways

   A large piece of concrete capping has rolled into the canal just North of Bridge 50 (London Works Bridge), causing a navigational obstruction on the towpath side of the canal. Boaters are advised to keep as close to the off side bank as possible whilst navigating past the hazard.

   British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

3. Stoppage: Bridge 10 Botteslow Street Bridge to Bridge 11 Ivyhouse Road Lift Bridge

   09 Jan 2012 - 17 Feb 2012

   UPDATE (30 January 2012): The deck strengthening works have been completed ahead of schedule; the towpath will now be open until 13th February when the works are undertaken by National Grid. The navigation will remain closed due to adjacent works.

   Stoppage history:
   

   These works have been planned to coincide with the winter navigation closure for delivering the Ivyhouse Embankment Works between 09/01/12 and 17/02/12.

   Towpath & Navigation: 09/01/12 to 10/02/12 - Contractors working for Stoke City Council are to undertake essential works to strengthen the deck of Botteslow Street Bridge. These works will require access to the underside of the bridge and will involve hot welding works. It is therefore necessary to close the towpath and navigation.

   Towpath: 13/02/12 to 17/02/12 - National Grid is to undertake works to cap off redundant gas mains at this location and towpath closure is necessary. Pedestrians please follow the diversions posted by the contractor.

   Towpath only will be re-opened for the weekend of 11th and 12th February 2012. At all other times please follow the diversion information posted on site.

   British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

4. Stoppage: Ivy House Embankment Bridge 11 - Bridge 13

   09 Jan 2012 - 17 Feb 2012

   Associated Regional Office: Central Shires Waterways

   Major works team to de-water section of canal between Bridge 11 Ivy House Lift Bridge to Bridge 13 Cromer Road. To investigate Ivy House embankment and install new stop plank grooves at both bridges.

5. Stoppage: Oakmeadowford Lock 16

   09 Jan 2012 - 10 Feb 2012

   De-watering of the lock chamber to undertake bottom end mitre gate replacement to reduce water loss. Inspection of paddles and fixtures to be repaired or replaced as required.

6. Stoppage: Hazelhurst Top Lock 10

   13 Feb 2012 - 09 Mar 2012

   De-watering of the lock chamber to undertake top end heads and heels and bottom end mitre gate replacements to reduce water loss. Inspection of paddles and fixtures to be repaired or replaced as required.
