Cycling is now permitted on the towpath, with a particularly improved surface between Etruria and Stockton Brook. Cycle hire outlets are available in the Churnet and Manifold valleys.

UPDATE (30 January 2012): The deck strengthening works have been completed ahead of schedule; the towpath will now be open until 13th February when the works are undertaken by National Grid. The navigation will remain closed due to adjacent works.
