Fishing along the Caledonian Canal
The Canal and its lochs - Loch Lochy, Loch Oich, Loch Ness and Loch Dochfour - are in general excellent for salmon and sea trout. The best months are July, August and Sept, but anytime between May and October is good.
The salmon season opens on 15th January; the trout season on 15th March. Other fish to be hooked, either on the fly or by rod, are rainbow trout, sea trout, brown trout and grilse.
There is some free fishing available, but mostly you have to purchase day or weekly tickets from the relevant local Angling Association.
