Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation
The Chelmer & Blackwater runs 13.75 miles from Chelmsford to the tidal River Blackwater at Heybridge Basin and is one of the shallowest statutory navigations in Britain, with a legal minimum requirement of only two feet (0.6m).
Travelling along the Chelmer & Blackwater is akin to stepping back in time. Despite its close proximity to London the canal is surprisingly remote and peaceful, nestling in willow lined valleys and mainly carving through gently undulating farmland.
