Derby & Sandiacre Canal
This 'canal of two parts' gave Derby two outlets to the outside world - south to the Trent, or east to Nottingham.
The canal was closed in the 1960s, but work is well advanced to restore it for local people.
Cycle charity Sustrans and the Derby & Sandiacre Canal Trust have collaborated to restore long sections of the canal and towpath. Locks are being slowly restored, a new bridge has been built in Derby, and slowly, the Derby Canal is coming back to life.
