Wildlife along the Driffield Navigation
Plenty of wildfowl and birds can be seen along the Navigation, as well as some summer migrants.
As part of the nationwide Wildlife Trusts’ Water For Wildlife Project, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust are working with the Environment Agency, water companies, landowners, local authorities and other organisations to implement the national Otter Biodiversity Action Plan, to encourage breeding otters back to all Yorkshire’s rivers and waterways by 2010.
This same project is also involved in organising conservation efforts in the local community in order to protect a wide range of important species, including damselflies, kingfishers and water voles.
There are over 80 Nature Reserves in the area too.
