Boating along the Dudley No 1 Canal
The Dudley No 1 Canal is part of the popular through-route from the Staffs & Worcs Canal to Birmingham and the Black Country.
Most boaters will turn right before climbing through the Parkhead Locks, which lead only to Dudley Tunnel. The tunnel is very low and engines are prohibited - so if you want to tackle it, you'll need to leg your boat through! An alternative route is available for all boats via the parallel Netherton Tunnel, a comparatively modern canal - that is, it's only 150 years old.
