Fossdyke Navigation

Built by the Romans, the Fossdyke has a strong claim to be Britain's oldest canal. It flows through almost entirely rural scenery for 11 miles from the River Trent to Lincoln, where it links with the River Witham and thereby the Wash at Boston.

The Fossdyke's surroundings may be plain and flat, but they have an undoubted charm of their own - including spectacular sunsets. The navigation also serves as a drainage conduit for adjoining fields.

The Glory Hole at Lincoln is said to be the oldest bridge in the country with buildings still standing on it. The isolation and total lack of development makes this waterway a pleasant destination for boaters.
