Fishing along the Grand Union Canal

British Waterways is keen to encourage both experienced and inexperienced anglers onto the Grand Union Canal and the water supply reservoirs which line it. Particularly good reservoir fishing is to be had near Tring and Marsworth, in Hertfordshire, and in the South Birmingham area.

Most sections of canal are leased to established clubs who welcome non-members for a small daily fee. Before you fish, check with your local British Waterways office for information on access and availability: signs on bridges sometimes also indicate the local angling club. Rod licences are obligatory, and can be obtained from your local post office or local tackle shops. Most local angling clubs also sell day permits.

Fish to be caught are the roach, perch and bream, chub, pike and carp.

Stockton Reservoir and Blythe Waters (near Solihull) are commercial fisheries administered by British Waterways' Lapworth office (01564 784634). Day tickets are available on site.
