The towpath is available for cycling from the edge of Nottingham to the canal terminus. Please cycle with great care and courtesy to others, observing the Waterways Code for Cyclists. You must display a valid British Waterways cycling permit on your cycle at all times. You can download one free of charge.

  • West Bridgford (A52) to Harby (25.5km): Well surfaced, maintained by the local council.
  • Harby to Woolsthorpe Top Lock (16.5 km): Rough grass: suitable in summer only.
  • Woolsthorpe Top Lock to Grantham (A1) (16.5 km): Well surfaced, maintained by the local council.

Advice: Lock 7 of the Grantham Canal for new bridge installation. Approx. 80 metres south of Lock 7 for the removal of redundant concrete crossing (upon installation of new bridge)

Towpath has been closed

Nottinghamshire County Council are proposing to install a new footbridge across Lock 7 of the Grantham Canal in Cotgrave.

These works will involve some use of the towpath for equipment and workers. Therefore, a temporary towpath diversion may be required during these works. Please follow any diversion signage and barriers erected on site.

Towpath has been closed

We will be completing bridge repair works at this site commencing on 9 January 2012 for 6 weeks.

During the works the towpath and watercourse under the bridge will be closed. Towpath users will be directed through and around the site by the Contractors.

Please take note of all signage at the site and comply with the reasonable requests of the Contractors.
