The Broads offer many opportunities for walking, with over 190 miles (300 km) of footpaths through some of the area's most attractive landscapes. There are nature trails, circular walks and long distance footpaths suitable for anything from a gentle stroll to a strenuous hike.

There are two series of Broads Walks along public footpaths: the Waveney Valley and the Bure valley walks. The seven waymarked routes in the Waveney Valley are at Beccles Marshes, Bungay (the Bigod Way), Burgh Castle, Carlton Marshes, Geldeston, Gillingham and Haddiscoe.

The Haddiscoe Island Walk is 12 miles long and can be done at a leisurely pace over an entire day. It is a circular walk around the Island starting at Haddiscoe bridge. You'll see the marshes, home to up to 40,000 cattle in the 18th century and now part of Britain's first Environmentally Sensitive Area, where farming is encouraged and the marsh landscape and its wildlife is protected. Then there are the windpumps, thought to have been built in the 16th century, used to drain the Broads marshes.
