Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal
The Herefordshire & Gloucestershire Canal runs for 34 miles through glorious countryside, and connects Hereford with the River Severn at Gloucester. An early casualty of dereliction, it was abandoned for decades but is now undergoing restoration.
The line has many interesting features, including an unusual skew bridge - built at a sharp angle to the canal - and a particularly long tunnel at Oxenhall. The basin at Over, near Gloucester, has been reopened. There are plans to reinstate the canal in its entirety, thus linking Hereford with the main network via the Severn.
