Hury Reservoir was built in 1894 and is the oldest of the five reservoirs in the Tees valley and is a haven for wildlife, especially birds.

The valley was flooded in the late 19th Century to supply the growing towns of Middlesbrough and Stockton. Hury is the final reservoir which flows down into the River Tees.
