The Ladybower Reservoir is the newest of three reservoirs in the Upper Derwent Valley in Derbyshire. It was completed in 1945 to provide drinking water for the cities of the north and east Midlands.

Bizarrely, the reservoir's selected location meant that the villages of Derwent and Ashopton had to be sacrificed in its waters, although the church spire was still used until recently for boat moorings when water levels were low.

The valley is now a scenic tourist attraction and visited year-round by walkers, cyclists and picnickers.
