Loch Leven

Just two hours from the bustling streets of Glasgow, the serene waters of Loch Leven lap at the foothills of Glencoe.

This remote corner of the Highlands offers some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Europe.

The gentle rolling hills of ‘the garden of England' could be on a different continent to the dramatic peaks of Glencoe, reflected in the still waters of the loch. Golden eagles still soar above ancient woodlands which witnessed the life of Robert the Bruce and the imprisonment of Mary Queen of Scots.

Loch Leven is a pleasure ground for the outdoors enthusiasts. Everything from walking to rock climbing, mountain biking and canoeing can be enjoyed here. Even skiers and snowboarders find plenty to entertain them on the popular slopes of Glencoe.

Winter après-ski aside, the land which suffered years of drama - culminating in the 17th Century Massacre of Glencoe – is now a peaceful spot. But it is not surprising that this powerful landscape is so favoured by Hollywood; the blockbuster films Highlander, Rob Roy and Braveheart were all filmed here.
