Due to vandalism the toilets at Marple service station have been closed. We are carrying out essential repairs and therefore the facility will be closed until further notice. Restriction: Bridge 41

Towpath has been closed

UPDATE as at 17.03.08 - British Waterways have assessed the safety of the failure site and it is safe for boats to pass by with a navigation restriction in width. The towpath is blocked and will remain closed between bridges 41 and 42 until further notice.
British Waterways have commissioned works to repair the wall. It is possible that short delays to passage will occur as further investigations are completed and the works commence.
We would ask customers to cooperate with local signage or the instructions of our staff on site.
Previous stoppage details:-
A retaining wall at bridge 41 on the Macclesfield Canal has slipped onto the towpath. The towpath is closed. The canal is open but there may be restricted passage. Engineers have been called to the site. Further updates will be available after a full assessment of the situation has taken place.
Boaters - Please keep to offside between bridges 40 & 43 and do not moor between this area.
British Waterways apologises for any inconvenience caused.
