Cycling along the Macclesfield Canal

Much of the towpath is unsuitable for cycling, though cyclists are well provided for in the local area, and there are a multitude of road and trail routes from which to choose.

The Bosley Flight (1.7 km) is open to cyclists. Take extra care alongside the lock flight. Do not speed.

The towpath in Macclesfield is also open between Bridge 37 (Buxton Road Bridge) and Bridge 40 (Leadbeaters Bridge), connecting with the National Cycle Network.

To cycle along the towpath you will need a British Waterways cycling permit which you can download free of charge.
