Fishing along the Macclesfield Canal

Many sections of the canal are leased to angling clubs and associations. There are 26 miles of fishing, much of it recently improved by recent dredging. Working north up the canal from its junction with the Trent & Mersey, angling is controlled by the following clubs:

  • Hardings Wood Junction to Hall Green Stop Lock: Kidsgrove & District AA
  • Five sections to Watery Lane Aqueduct: Burslem Surburban AC, Warrington AA, Middleport WMC, Warrington AA, Victoria AC
  • To Henshalls Bridge 80: Warrington AA
  • From Henshalls Bridge to Lamberts Lane Bridge 77: Victoria & Biddulph AS
  • To Lamberts Bridge, Bridges 72 to 77: Warrington AA
  • Porters Farm Bridge to Buxton Road Bridge, Congleton: Macclesfield Waltonian AS
  • To Congleton Bridge 61: Waterway Wanderers

Locations:

  • Buxton Road Bridge to Marple Top Lock: No fishing between bridges 14 and 15, which are BW mooring. Day tickets on the bank and from local tackle shops. No night fishing. Bait and other restrictions apply. Northern Anglers Association. Contact Mr Brown 01942 726917.
  • Congleton Bridge No 61 to Townfield Bridge No 66: Waterways Wanderers Permit/Waterways Anglers Together.

Unfortunately we don’t currently have any information on fishing and fisheries along the Macclesfield Canal.
