Walking along the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal
Much of the towing path between Bolton and Bury is classified as a public right of way and can be walked. Many of the infilled sections of the canal are not accessible to walkers, however, and there's restricted access where the land is held in private ownership, particularly in Salford.
The Heritage Trail is almost 17 miles long, but is split into shorter sections, depending on where you wish to start. Most of the trail follows the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal. The sections are:
Sacred Trinity Church to Clifton Aqueduct - 5 miles Clifton Aqueduct to Nob End - 3 miles Nob End to Bolton Parish Church - 3 miles Nob End to Bury Parish Church - 6 miles
