Boating along the Melton Mowbray Navigation

Though the waterway is still mostly unnavigable, you can cruise a short length in Melton Mowbray.

The Melton & Oakham Waterways Society runs regular boat trips in the town, around a short loop formed by the river and the historic canal line. These run in summer months and you can find out more by contacting the society.

There is also a slipway here, so you can launch your own boat or canoe.

The society's next project is to rebuild the first bridge on the navigation, where the river leaves the main waterway from Leicester to Loughborough. At present, this is too low for boats to pass underneath.
