Brecon to Brynich Aqueduct (Bridge167 –Bridge 162)
Total Distance: 3.5 km
Star grading:

"Our walk begins in the beautiful town of Brecon."
Our walk begins at the northern basin of the canal in the beautiful town of Brecon. There is a car park with disabled parking spaces at the basin. The easiest access point is from the theatre (with nearby toilets and benches) and you also have the option of taking a boat trip along the canal (the boat has disabled access).
The towpath is smooth and hard with a few fishing spots en-route. You can walk up to the Brynich locks, a stretch of around 3km, but please note that there is a lack of resting areas between bridge 164 and 163. The access point at bridge 163 leads to the locks and there is a linear slope on the approach. There is a nice picnic area at the locks with a few tables.
The next access point is across the road through a hinged gate for vehicles accompanied by a foot gate. The main gate is generally not locked and the foot gate is 815mm there is some linear slope and cross slope on the approach. There is a small lay-by on the side of the road where a car can be parked but note that this can be busy during high season.
The Brynich aqueduct is around 600mm from this access point. The towpath is smooth and hard with no considerable linear or cross slope.

Talybont On Usk (Bridge 143-bridge 145)

Total Distance: 900 metres
Recommended access points: 2
Star grading:

"The towpath along the canal offers an easy walk."
Talybont-on-Usk lies between the River Usk and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. It has several pubs and a shop. Talybont was a busy village when the railway and canal were operational, but today it is a quiet holiday centre with facilities for fishing, pony trekking, walking and cycling. The towpath along the canal offers an easy walk.
A car park is conveniently located close to bridge 143 just by the B4558; a ramp connects the car park to the canal towpath. The surface of the ramp is tarmac, with some linear slope but this does not last for more than 10-15m. The width of the ramp is above 1000mm. Toilets are located next to the car park and the White Hart Inn is just across from the car park with seating available by the towpath.
Once on the towpath turn right and walk along the towpath towards the village. The surface of the towpath is crushed stone and the width is 1000-1200mm. The next access point is just before bridge 144 and this goes down to the village. There is a ramp with a tarmac surface and some linear and cross slope on it. The width of this access point is above 1000mm.
There is another access point at bridge 144. This access point is from the main road over the lift bridge. To access the towpath cross the road carefully. The towpath on this side does not change much until bridge 145.

Llangynidir locks to bridge 137

Star grading:

"Spectacular views through the Brecon Beacons National Park."
Parking is available at Llangynidir lock just by the B4558. The surface of the parking area is compacted stone, as is the path that follows through to the locks. The walk from the car park brings you straight out by lock 65 which is the second lock in the series of five located in this area. The towpath is nice and smooth, made from compacted stone with a width between 1000-1200mm.
The closest pub is the Coach & Horses by the bottom lock, around 400m from the carpark.
From here turn north towards Brecon, there is a service block with toilets which are locked and can be operated with a BW key (keys and other essentials are available from the waterscape.com shop).
The towpath meanders through the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park with some spectacular views. Due to the presence of three locks there is some linear slope but this does not last for more than 10m by each lock.
The surface is a little rough and puddles may appear after rain. Thanks to the width of the path, most towpath users should be able to pass around them.
Just after lock 67 there is a small pond on the left side of the towpath with disabled access fishing platforms. The walk is dotted with resting areas at regular intervals in the form of picnic tables and benches.

There is a bench on the top of this access point just beside a road. Walkers need to cross the road at the zebra crossing and can access the other side through another open gap, the surface is stone and the condition fair.
