Boating along the Montgomery Canal

Cruising on the Montgomery Canal

Two separate sections of the canal are currently navigable. Restoration efforts are focusing on joining the two sections, by bringing dry sections back into water, raising low bridges, and rebuilding derelict locks.

Welsh Frankton to Redwith Bridge

The canal is navigable from 5.5 miles south from Welsh Frankton, the junction with the Llangollen Canal, through the Frankton and Aston flights of locks, to Redwith Bridge.

Passage is only possible at certain times of day and may require booking. For full details, click 'Stoppages' on the left.

Arddleen to Welshpool and Berriew

This 11-mile section of canal around Welshpool is also navigable. You can launch boats into the canal using the slipway at Welshpool, providing you obtain a British Waterways licence beforehand.
