Wildlife along the Ribble Link
Savick Brook has traditionally supported breeding colonies of sand martins which nest in the cliffs along the waterway. Construction works at these locations were scheduled to start only after the sand martins had migrated for their winter home in Africa. New nesting cliffs have been created ready for their return in March.
A reedbed and mature trees in ancient woodland at the bottom end of the Millennium Ribble Link provide suitable habitat for bats such as Daubenton’s. There are plans to install bat boxes along this part of the route to further encourage bats to settle.
