Wildlife along the Ripon Canal
In August 2002, the Waterways Trust gave £750 to the Ripon Canal & Wetlands Project as part of its Small Grants Scheme, set up to support waterways-related projects which provide lasting environmental enhancement, encourage involvement with the waterways and involve and benefit the community.
Two bird hides on the canal towpath overlook a washlands area. No fewer than 76 different species of birds have been spotted here.
