Boating along the River Ant

The Ant is one of the quieter Broadland rivers. Its narrow, winding and comparatively shallow course encourages the boater to take things slowly.

Many dykes and cuts branch off the river, leading to good moorings in local towns and villages. Stalham has long been a centre for Broads boating, with several hire-bases in the town. Indeed, the river has illustrious historical connections - Admiral Nelson is thought to have learnt to sail in Barton Broad, through which the Ant flows.

Boat trips are available at How Hill Nature Reserve and Barton Broad.
