Fishing along the River Avon (Stratford)
The Warwickshire Avon is a particularly strong river for zander - and a specimen weighing almost 16lb was recently caught near Pershore. Other common catches include barbel, pike and perch, though these tend to be significantly smaller. Except in times of flood, the Avon is a slow-flowing river, making it a good waterway for the novice. The areas near lock weirs are always popular with anglers.
There are excellent private fisheries along the river. Opportunities include Anchor Meadow at Harvington, near Evesham (day tickets available), and Seven Meadows in Stratford-upon-Avon.
