River Clyde
Synonymous with Govan, which once produced a quarter of the world's ships, the Clyde's fortunes were largely based on the 29.5 miles from Cambuslang to Dumbarton. It derived much success from having a major European port facing the Americas.
The Clyde is still a busy port area. The area around Glasgow has undergone much modernisation and is once more accessible by inland vessels following the restoration of the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals.
