Fishing along the River Dee (Cheshire)
The grayling, sea trout and salmon fishing on the Dee is superb. The lower Dee near Chester is a fine match-fishing venue with good stocks of dace, chub and bream. Pike occur throughout the river system with barbel at Bangor-on-Dee, while the Dee estuary provides good sea fishing.
The River Dee is one of the most closely monitored waterways for pollution in Europe. It's part of a network of lakes and rivers that supply water to more than two million people in North Wales and along the border with England. Despite the occasional pollution scare, there are good fish stocks in the water, including salmon and trout with large shoals of grayling providing good winter sport. The water authorities have hatcheries to help improve the fish qualities and the river estuary is a also a source of salmon and shrimp.
