History of the River Forth

The River is at one end of the Antonine Way, running from Bo'ness on the River Forth with Old Kilpatrick just outside Glasgow on the River Clyde. It takes its name from The Antonine Wall, built by the Romans as the northern frontier of their empire in AD142. By AD163 the border had returned south to Hadrian's Wall. The walk follows the old wall embankments.
