Wildlife along the River Great Ouse
An abundance of wildlife is found along the riverbanks, including birds such as moorhen, mallards, swans, grebes and herons. The Wicken Fen nature reserve near Ely is a haven for rare native insects and wild flowers. The Ouse washes, the area between the Bedford Rivers, are an important conservation area, where bird lovers can view many species, particularly at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust visitor centre at Welney and the Ouse Washes nature reserve at Welches Dam.
