Wildlife along the River Humber

As one of the largest estuaries in the UK, the Humber suports abundant wildlife.

Far Ings Nature Reserve, west of Barton supports 230 species of wildflower, 50 nesting bird species and a large variety of insects including 250 species of moth.

Spurn point at the northside of the mouth of the Humber is a good place to spot migrant birds,

Barton Clay Pits at the Southern end of Humber Bridge has lots of Hides for watching the local Bird life including March Harriers.

You can also sometimes see seals in the River Humber on Reed Island from South Ferriby.

There are plans to turn the south bank into one of Europes' largest conservation areas. The land aroudn Alkborough Flatts will have new salt marshes,saline lagoons, reedbeds, grazing marsh and mudflats.
