Wildlife along the River Kelvin

The urban Kelvin once had a reputation as a dirty, polluted river, but recent improvements have seen wildlife return to its banks. It now supports a healthy fish population - as the occasional visiting cormorant will testify.

The upper Kelvin has always been important for wildlife. Since the river floods frequently, it helps to replenish large areas of floodplain which provides an excellent grazing habitat. Lapwing, redshank and snipe can be seen in the area.
