Cycling along the River Nene
The gentle rolling landscape of East Northamptonshire, giving way to the flat terrain of the Fens, makes cycling a relaxing and enjoyable experience for all ages and levels of fitness. Many cycle routes follow waterways, and route maps are available from tourist information centres.
Keen cyclists will find 15 dedicated cycle routes criss-crossing Northamptonshire, taking in places of natural beauty and historic interest, including many sites along the Nene. Further details can obtained from the Countryside Services of the County Council (01604 237220).
There is currently no consistent cycleway along the length of the Nene, but a proposal is under consideration by local councils.
Cyclists are asked to be courteous to other users who have right of way. Please dismount where necessary to avoid accidents and slow down if walkers are approaching, or if anglers are ahead.
