Wildlife along the River Severn
Throughout much of its length the Severn remains a natural waterway, wild and unspoilt in its upper reaches. Dippers, little ringed plovers, herons, swans, dragonflies, damselflies and otters are all examples of wildlife dependent on the river.
Whales and seals have occasionally been known to go up the river, with hundreds of spectators flocking to see a whale which was beached in January 1885.
