Walking along the River Thurne

There are footpaths along most of the Thurne, including the attractive walk from the river's confluence with the Bure through to Hickling Broad. An enjoyable circular walk can be taken from Potter Heigham to Hickling Broad, walking along the river then returning through the distinctive, flat countryside.

There are around 200 miles of definitive footpaths in the Broads - of which 60 miles are waymarked long distance routes or circular walks. The Broads Authority has signposted 24 walks, varying in length from half a mile to 15 miles in the Bure and Waveney Valleys and in the Ant-Thurne area. Many of these paths cross some of the most scenic landscapes and waterscapes in the Broads, sometimes following the water's edge, at other times skirting fenland or passing through grazing marsh.
