Wildlife along the River Tyne
The Tyne Riverside Country Park has a large variety of wildlife and birdlife to see. The usual waterfowl - moorhens, ducks and swans can be seen on the water. Bats nest under some of the bridges.
Near Crichton Castle there are plenty of typical woodland birds like the Redstart, Green, Green Warbler, Long-tailed Tit, Tree Pipit and Great Spotted Woodpecker. The marshlands are home to Siskin, Reed Bunting and Sedge and Grasshopper Warblers.
Elsewhere on the river, other examples of birds spotted are Grey and Pied Wagtail, House Martins, Dippers, Wrens, Robins, Blackbirds, Song Thrushes, Whitethroats and Yellowhammers. Near the water Heron, Sandpipers, Linnets and Kingfishers have been seen in the spring and summer.
