History of the River Ure
The River Ure was promoted by Acts in 1767 and 1820 as part of plans to improve access on the Swale, the River Ouse and, via canal the River Ripon. The Ure passes through Boroughbridge, the 44th of some 400 Norman Settlements and Aldborough, a town once occupied by the ancient Britons and the Ancient Romans, and finally towards Linton Lock as it becomes the River Ouse.
