Wildlife along the River Wharfe
The River has a rich and varied wildlife, becoming microsystems to, and directly influencing, the environment around them. There is an on-going conservation effort to protect and encourage various species, including otters, breeding birds, native crayfish and native fish. Measures are also in place to attempt to control alien species at the location.
Wetland habitats are being created and analyses of local tree varieties recorded.
Dragonflies and damselflies and even kingfishers visit the river. Many types of birds nest in the trees and hedges.
