Advice: Black Sluice Drain
19 Aug 2010 until further notice
Associated Regional Office: East Midlands Waterways
This information has been kindly provided by John Baylis.
Grand Sluice lock is only about 45 ft (13.7m) in length so narrowboats over this length need to take advantage of the tidal and retained sections of the River Witham becoming level twice on each tide.

Restriction: From Broadgate to Stamp End Lock
03 Jan 2012 - 24 Dec 2012
Associated Regional Office: East Midlands Waterways
Lincolnshire County Council, in discussion with the Environment Agency, wish to carry out works to the river wall alongside Waterside South in Lincoln.
It is expected that these works will require British Waterways (BW) to close the River Witham to boats on two occasions in 2012.
The condition of the wall necessitated the closure of Waterside South in Lincoln in 2011 and, although LCC carried out some repairs, it would appear that more extensive works are needed, requiring water levels to be lowered.
The closure will take effect from Broadgate to Stamp End Lock, a length of approximately 500m and each closure is anticipated to last two weeks.
The precise programme of works and exact dates are still to be agreed, but BW has requested that the works are scheduled to avoid the busiest times for navigation thereby minimising disruption to its boating customers.
BW would like to apologise for any inconvenience the closure causes and will provide more up to date information when it is agreed.

Restriction: Between Torksey Lock and Lincoln
03 Feb 2012 until further notice
Associated Regional Office: East Midlands Waterways
Due to the current weather conditions, the River Witham has now frozen over.
Boaters are asked not to travel along the navigation until the ice has thawed.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
